Need advice in my case
I have bachelors degree and posses 8 years of experience in software testing. I was looking to do PMP, but the requitrement say I need 4500 hrs of project management that sums to around 1 and half years of project management. My career path was little weird. After 2 year of work exp, I switched to a start up and got an opportunity to be a senior qa and withing few months I was leading a team of 20 people. I was the solely managing the project from start till end. My duties involve, client meetings, getting requirements, Creating Test plan for the prject, performance reviews, sending daily and weekly reports and creating post mortem reports at the end of projects. I was not doing budgeting at all. I worked in that company for 2 and half years and my lead experience would be more than 2 years. Since then I switched companies, but never got an opportunity to lead or manage a team. Now I am confused, should I go for CAPM or PMP. Can I qualify for PMP keeping in mind whatever exposure I got , was 5 years ago? There is no chance in my current organization, that I will get an oppportunity to lead or manage. I initially was inclined towards CAPM , but then was thinking, I have to devote somewhat similar effort in studying PMP. Why not choose the one thats has more recognition.
Any suggestions??

PMP is more recognized than
PMP is more recognized than CAPM. Dont waste your time with CAPM, If you can get PMP nothing like it. Just make sure you have 4500 hours of experience.

You need to have 4500 hours of PM experience in a leading & directing role to to do PMP. So, PM role is must before doing PMP. However, PM role is not equivalent to PM designation/title. PM role means that you should have managed full or part of a project. Your role in the project could be of vendor management, team management, client management etc. The projects could be related to any industry.
