My fellow PMP Aspirants from across the globe

My fellow PMP Aspirants from across the globe,

I have joined this forum today , rather just now, as I heard about this forum in various places on the world wide web. Like you people, friends and fellow PMPians, I also hold the desire to acquire the most coveted certification in the project management fraternity. This desire is very close to my heart and it grows more as every day passes. People says time erodes the things, I say a buring desire grows by time. Isn't it. We can talk about this later. First things first. Now, I am about to deep dive in the ocean of project management and I know where there is a will, there is a way and I choose the path less  travelled bcoz that is what makes great people around the world from Gandhi to Lincoln. Coming to point, I am having 10 yrs of rigorous experience in Mechanical to Teaching to IT Development to Project Management. I have crossed the borders to IT and Non-IT. I have crossed the borders of country and oceans.

My fellow friends, Please guide me how to start .Knowledge is one thing which grows more as you share more so please dont give me half knowledge. Give me full knowledge and I promise you from the core of my heart that I will not let you down.

Please let me know

- What are the latest and greatest PMP books ?

- How many months of non stop, uninterrupted, one focus study do I need ?

I am sure I will have more queries as I study the greatest of the books and I have a strong belief that my friends in this forum will not leave me alone. Thank you all in advance.

Welcome to PMZilla. Over last 8 years PMZilla has managed to collect lot of content about PMP certification and related PMI certifications. Your questions will be answered by reading the LL and experiences here posted by fellow PMPians

Last update to PMP was on Aug 2013 so , all the books were updated during that time.  This is a niche area so its not like new books are coming out every month.

I dont know about months.... but I would say that if you have studied for 180 hours for PMP, you will be in good position to take real exam.  If you have lot of PM experience , the hours will be much less for you.

Regards

Hello PMP aspirant,

First of all, congratulations on kicking off your journey to becoming a PMP and getting certified. PMI's PMP certification is a valuable credential to add on to your resume/career profile.

To kick start your PMP preps make sure you at-least get hold of the following:

(a) PMBOK 5th edition

(b) Rita Mulcahy 8th edition

These are the most recommended books that I have come across. I passed my PMP exam on the first attempt and you can read about my lessons learned, tips, tricks, guidance etc in a detailed blog post that I have written here - http://thewisdompearls.com/best-tips-to-pass-the-pmp-exam/

Also, in order to apply for the PMP exam you need to make sure you go through the process meticulously. You can find detailed information on how to avoid a PMP application audit here - http://thewisdompearls.com/avoid-a-pmp-application-audit/

Further you need to get hold of some fast track notes, question banks and cheat sheets. There are plenty of resources available here in this forum and on the web. One such resource: http://thewisdompearls.com/download-pmp-material/

Hope this will help you start your PMP preps.

Good luck!

Samy
