The project team is considering whether to purchase a service or do it themselves. One of the items that should not be considered in their analysis is:
a. The seller’s price
b. The cost and availability of floor space at the team’s facility
c. The seller’s technical staff
d. A competitor’s method of outsourcing


 


Correct answer is "D" can anyone please explain me reason behind it. Thanks.



 A project manager is concerned about team building on her project. One of the mandatory things that she must have in order to have good team building is:
a. Commitment from top level management
b. Co-location of team members
c. Establishment of clear negotiated goals
d. Open discussion of poor individual performance



correct answer given is "A" but as per my understanding it should be "B". Please advise incase my understanding is not correct. Thanks.

I am still in learning process but i think below could be the reasons for the answers

Regarding #1,

a) it is important criteria for decision making so it is not the right answer

b) In the page 321 of PMBOK, Make or Buy Analysis section mentions that the analsysis should consider all direct and indirect costs. hence the cost and availability of floor space is a factor. so this option cannot be the answer.

c) the sellers technical staff - This one seems to be a proper answer but In the question it says purchasing a service so technical staff may involve some cost.

d) this one has no role in deciding make or buy since we look only on whether to make or procure from outside and doesnt bother about what our competitors. Hence this one is the right choice.

 

Regarding #2,

b) As per PMBOK, Co location is one of the techniques like team builing to enhance their ability to perform. Hence this could not be the answer

Also i would like to comment that Team building is also required for Virtual teams, so colocation is not a mandatory requirement

 Q1. content is asking for make or buy, while option D is  talking for method of outsourcing , is irrelevant. It is also not reccomedable from any process/ technique. To follow competitors stategy is unethical.

Q2. Since Co loaction is a technique of  process Develop project team (may say technique of team building)---- so it may be an option. Option A -- is little deviate from PMBOK.

9.3.2

To build effective project teams, project managers should obtain top management support, obtain commitment of team members, introduce appropriate rewards and , create a team identity, manage conflicts effectively, promote trust and open communication m members, and, above all, provide good team leadership.
