Info on Basics
Hi ,
I want to appear for PMP exam by Aug 2015.
I am overwhelmed with the information on preparation available on the internet and need a little clarification.
1. Is Rita Mulcahy's 8th edition the latest which I should refer ? Is Rita Mulchay the best and a must-read ?
2. Can this book be downloaded for free ? If NOT which is the best site to get it ?
3. Are the PMP coaching centers helpful (the ones that provide 4 classroom training and online assistance like knowledgewood/knowledgehut etc ? or should I first read through Rita Mulcahy before I join such centers.
4. Should I first complete studying Rita Mulcahy and then determine when I should enrol for PMP exams ? I am a beginner in PM role at work.

1. AFAIK, yes 8th edition is the latest one. It is a great book and I would recommend it highly.
2. No, it can't be downloaded for free. You can order it from Amazon.
3. Don't know as I didn't enrol for any
4. I suggest you book exam slot first if you have already completed 35 training hours. As there is a audit process, you should enrol first to make sure you are eligible for opting for exam. Also, once you pay your exam fees, you will not be able to procrastinate, that's what my experience is.

PMP Preparation
PMBOK5 and RITA Mulachy 8/Headfirst PMP 3rd edition is must read. There are alernative Prep books available by other authors like, Kim heldmann, Andy crowe, sohel akhter, sean whitaker etc.
You need to have 35 hours of Project management education before you apply for PMP exam. If your application is picked for audit you need to show the artifact for 35 hours of PMP education.
If you dont have 35 hours you must join any classroom training/online training. Make sure they are registered with PMI (Ask for REP number and verify in PMI website). Once you complete the 35 contact hours you can start filling the application form online at www.pmi.org
If you already have 35 hours of PM education, you can enroll for PMI membership and you can download copy of PMBOK5 in pdf format.
PMP prep books can be purchased online at amazon website.
All the best for your PMP preparations

Yes one of the complexities
Yes one of the complexities of PMP certification is the overwhelming information available about the certification on the net and 100s of vendors trying to sell their products for PMP and their marketing confuses the PMP aspirants.
That is why we have the LL section on PMZilla. Read what people who have passed the exam have to say on what books to refer, what mock tests to take etc.
You will figure out in some time your road map.

1. Rita's book is considered
1. Rita's book is considered one of the most reffered book, however I wasn't read her book when I was preparing for my PMP
2. You might find the "free" version of this book, however by buying this book you are respecting the author of the book and also put more pressure on you to pass the exam since you've already invest your money for exam fee and books
3. Read some materials before taking the course will help you prepare for the course content and also give you times and perspective to prepare questions for things you haven't understand to the trainer
4. Reffered to question number 3, yes i think it will more beneficial for you to read the book first.
