I passed PMP today, Wang

Warm Greetings from Wang,

I am happy to saying that I passed PMP today, it was my first attempt. I got moderately proficient in all 5 process group. I spent about 5 months in the preparations.

I read PMBOK 3 times and Rita and Andy Crowe once. I made sure to read PMBOK definitions that are at the last.

For about 40 days I practicing various test like PMZilla Free Test, Fast Track, Oliver, HeadFirst, PMStudy, Pmpforsure(paid), TechFaq360, Mosaicprojects and Tutorial Point. I got 60% to 70% in these mock tests.

Fast Track is very nice for understanding tricky question and especially its explanation. I concentrating a lot on IITO, and touch the PMBOK IITO pages almost daily for 45 days. Pmpforsure is excellent, they have mix questions on IITO situational and tricky long questions. They also giving some revision notes, very nice for last revision.

I was done exam in about 3 hours and 40 minutes and then my heart started beating high once I clicked the finish button. The wait screen was looking danger for the 5 minutes. I just closed my eyes and thinking about my wife and my daughter that time. I then see “Congratulations” on the screen, thanked God and my family and left the centre with smiling.

Just one tip to the PMP seekers here, PMP questions has mix type questions, not all are tough and not all tricky and big. Only few questions like 20 were based on formulas of calculations. Make sure you practicing all types of questions and practice a lot. Read PMBOK many times. I wishing everyone best of luck.

Can u please send me the link for fast track exam papers?

Is it the one for Rita?

I using the Rita fast track software that gets installed in your windows like application. It has over 1000 questions and I bought the activation. I did not use any fast track exam papers.

Were you using Rita Fastrack v7 or V6?Do you find its level of difficulty close to the actual exam? To what extent did it help you on passing the exam? Did you finish all questions in it?

sorry for so many question for you as I'm planning to use Fastract V7 for the preparation.

thanks!

- Danny

Danny,

I took the real PMP test on May 2nd did very well. I prepared with Rita 6th edition, PMBOK, Andy Crowe (only for tests). Did several free Mock exams like Headstart, Lehman, PMStudy, PMZilla, Rita chaper end and PMI website two books. I suggest do the mocks once in the beginning. Study for 2-3 weeks. Then do all the mocks again. Review both correct and wrong answers. You will do very well in the test. If you get over 70% in Lehman and PMstudy, you are good to take the test.

Good Luck

Thank you for your sharing!

Congratulations!

Did you have a lot questions on ITTO in the actual exam too? Did you use understand & remember stragtegy on all the ITTOs or you memorized a lot?

-Danny

As per my experience last week IITO is the base of all PMP questions. In fact, about 60-70% questions are coming on IITO, all will not be direct question but will have 1-2 lines of situations. In my PMP exam, there were even some one line direct IITO questions like 30-40. Formula based were like 20 only. I did not memorize any IITO, like I saying earlier I read the PMBOK IITO pages many times and practicing many test.

I using Fast Track version 6 only. My English and PMP concepts are not that good, so I taking lots of time in preparations. I would saying, if you have time like 2 months or more then only going for Fast Track as it needs time to read and understanding each answer explanation. My feeling is that, Fast Track is excellent just because of its explanation that you will finding no where else. My PMP exam experience was not that close to Fast Track, as majority PMP questions are IITO based and simple. About 30% PMP questions are tricky and of Fast Track Type. For all other questions having IITO knowledge is sufficient. I also using pmpforsure (paid, 1050 questions), they having huge collections of IITO based situational questions and helping a lot to revise IITO concepts. So if you having time, you must buy the fast track as every question in it has some trick and when you reading its explanation, you actually learning a lot and many tricks.

Dear Wanghang,

Well done! I would like to know how you made up the 35 hours. Did you do any  class-room training or online one? Any good sources?

Regards

Ernest

My company organizing for me PMP classroom training for 4 days in January this year. I think class room training would add more value as its interactive, you talking to the expert instructor face to face. I am happy saying that, the tips and suggesting giving there by instructor helping me to solve 15-20 PMP questions. Out of 35 hours you spending with instructor, even if you pay attention to 10-15 hours, it would be adding lots of values. I have no idea for the online PDU purchasing, I guess, its just paying money and getting PDU. Not sure how it will adding value than class room training.

Thank you for your reply, I did two-day classroom training at Knowledgehut in Dec last year which is counted as 16 hours and I need to make up 19 hours by accessing the online materials. The online materials and suport are very disapponting. I am looking for a source of materials. I plan to do the exam in three months.

Ernest

My personnel advice being a certified PMP instructor:

1. If you have to purchase PDU ALWAYS look for the cheapest option making sure its from a PMI REP (Registered Education Provider). Never go for brand and pay heavy.
2. Other option is, I am not sure which company you work with. Generally people in leadership/management band do attend training or workshop on “Project Management”. If this is the case, you can get letter issued from your company HR that says you have attended 19 hours of training/workshop on “Project Management” on xyz dates.

I have given you 2 options, looks at the best one that suits you. Most important is prepare well, put lots of time in reading good books and then start mock exam preparations. Do not hurry, have patience, success will automatically come to you. All the best!

Saket, PMP

 Dear Saket,

Thank you for your tips. I did the course is a PMP prep course. Knowledgehut is a PMI recognized training partner.  I have bought Rita already. As you mentioned, patience is very important.

Thanks again

Ernest

Hi Wang, congratulations on clearing the PMP...

Based on your inputs, I tried 50 free Qs on pmp4sure. Of course the questions were different and tricky, yet I noticed few similar questions that I encountered in FASTrack. My question is, how do you rate your overall experience with pmp4sure? Compared to other paid simulators, this one is much affordable, but not sure about the quality of the remaining 1000 questions. If you could share your thoughts on this..

Also if you could share your LL, Notes & dumps it will be really great….

Cheers!!

No man, pmpforsure is totally different from Fast Track. I am used both 2 times. Fast Track questions, options and explanation are very different, big and tricky for most of the questions. Pmpforsure has mainly IITO based choices and explanation from PMBOK…I have noticing many such questions. For IITO you can even read PMBOK IITO pages you don’t need any Test. Not sure how I rate and comment on quality, all I can saying is its excellent for IITO practices and its explanation is small and from PMBOK. Pmstudy is also good, the free test I trying earlier.

Hello all, I gave my PMP exam yesterday and cleared. I have used PM study (All chapters, 4full length paid versions), PM Fast track, PMP for sure, Velociteach, etc.. I would say 2 things helped me a lot in getting my concepts right.. First its PMZilla, with members guiding and sharing lessons learnt, Rajesh Nair notes (This notes is really awesome).. Second PMP for sure.. These questions are really tricky and helpful and they are updated regularly. So i would recomend PMP for sure paid test as i have literally tried all the softwares and paid exams available for PMP.

All the Best for your PMP...

Balaji.

Dear Balaji,

Congraluations on your PMP, please also help me. Did you try PMP for the first time? You say you have tried almost all paid test. Can you write in details your study plans and what all did you try and how relevant were they from PMP exam perspective?

Thanks & Regards,
Mohit Kumar

Greeting from Wang

Sorry for delaying in response, after a long time I have logging in here. All I can say is that, the real PMP questions will not be that straight and simple as you see in most of the places. Read PMBOK and Rita few times. For test questions refer Rita, PMStudy, Pmpforsure, they having good questions like PMP exam type. Practicing lots of IITO from PMBOK and practicing lots of PMP questions, you will learning IITO automatically.
