I could not pass the PMP exam

Hello Friends,

I do not want to de-motivate people here but would like to share a sad note that I could not pass the PMP exam. My result showed BP in 4 process group and MP in just 1. I did not expect this bad result, however I did feel that the real PMP exam is much more tough and complex than what I could sense through mock tests. I did read Rita, Headfirst and PMBOK once and even in various mock tests I was able to score around 70% to 75%. Here are the mock tests I took - Simplilearn Free Test, Head First Free, Oliver Lehmann, Skillsoft, Pm-exam-simulator, Christopher Scordo, Exam Central, Pmstudy, and TechFAQ360.

I feel PMP exam is not that easy and average difficulty exam. I will have to look back and explore what I could have done differently. I am in no hurry for the next time and I will try to come back to normal mode before planning the next cycle.

Thanks & Regards,
Sabrina

my strategie for PMP Prep goes like that (overview):
Step 1: Just read the chapter in PMBoK Guide
Step 2: Now STUDY the corresponding chapter in your prep book(s)
Step 3: NOW STUDY the same chapter in PMBoK Guide AND try to understand the content and how the processes work for instance.
Step 4: After all of that just do the provided sample questions in your prep book(s) to see if you have understood the stuff. If you have less than 70% right, do the steps 2 -

4 again or try to figure out where your weak areas are and do those chapters again.

This is how my strategie works in a rough and it is good for me. Another people here rute for the strategie to read the PMBoK GUide at least 3 times straight through.
From my point of view, this doesn't work really well.
But everyone have to find his own strategy i guess ...

Please don't hesitate to contact me if there are any further questions.

I hope this tipps are a bit helpfull for you.

Best of luck!

Markus

Dont get disheartend. Just get back to your mood after 2 week or a month.

Than start again, Just read PMBOK word by word try to understand it.

Read Rita +  PMBOK chapter wise take tym & understand the concepts thats important.

Than check ur understnadings.

Make notes if ufeel so...

Focus on change management,Quality,Risk,Communication,HR thse are tough.

Hi Sabrina,

I am voice with admin comments and really sorry to hear you failing the exam. Yes as per my experience PMP exam is not an easy exam and high scores in easy practice tests makes you believe in wrong way. I highly suggest you to read Rita and PMBOK couple of times and take practice test which has higher complexity level like Rita FT, Oliver, Pmzest and Pmzilla.

I am sure you have made some good lesson learnt with this failure and you will overcome it with happy note the next time. Come back to normal mood soon. :)

Hi Thomas,

Project Management Professional (PMP) is not an easy exam to attempt. Lasting for 4 hours, it has 200 multiple choice questions, of which one has to answer at least 106 correctly to qualify. The exam is designed to be extremely difficult so that only the best candidates can get the certification. This is the reason why PMP holds immense value and its certificate holders get paid handsomely.

I would like to share an article about How to Cope With Failure in PMP Examination. This article contains few ways to cope with failure in PMP Exam. Hope it helps you.

Good Luck for your next attempt.

Hi,

That is sad but don't worry. You will have better luck next time.

You should start with determining what was the reason for not getting through. You must determine the root cause of failing. I have written a post titled 15 Reasons Why People Failed the PMP Exam You should read this post. This will help you in determining the root cause.

After reading the post, give yourself some time and and think about each point. If required, you should change your prep strategy.

All the best.
