PMBOK defines "Hammock Activity" as, "A group of related schedule activities aggregated at some summary level, and displayed/reported as a single activity at that summary level."
Let suppose I am constructing a house. I have many summary activities that would further need to be broken down into smaller activities for further elaboration and control. Such summary activities for my project will be to Acquire Land, Develop Engineering Design, Outsource Construction and Obtain NOC etc. Each of these summary activities need to be further broken down into smaller, more manageable activities for better estimation and control. For example my summary activity "Acquire Land" will contain many activities for example Search Candidate, Negotiate Lease, Make Payment and Transfer Ownership etc. How much %age of work for a given summary activity can be calculated by calculating %ages of sub-activities, multiplying with their duration factor (activity duration/summary activity duration) and adding these value up.

Hammock Activity
Hi Sai,
PMBOK defines "Hammock Activity" as, "A group of related schedule activities aggregated at some summary level, and displayed/reported as a single activity at that summary level."

I hope this answers the question.
