free float and total float again
Submitted by raymondlemon on Thu, 04/04/2013 - 18:05
What happens to the finish date of a project and the starting date of its successors
(tasks) when one task, whose free and total slacks are, i.e. free and total floats are,
respective 3 days and 6 days is delayed by 4 days?
and second question
What happens with the finish date of a project when a task/activity, which is in the
critical path, is delayed by 5 days? Consider all other tasks on time.

My answer..
Q1
The Q is not clear on what are the dependencies on the first task. Total float is for the path, not for the activity.. Any way, the successor activity will get pushed by one day. But it is clear that the first activity is not in the critical path. So it doesnt affect the project finish date, by pushing off 4 days in this context.
Q2 The project will get delayed by 5 days. There is always free float of 0 in critical path, and slack is 0 or -ve.
Is this correct ?
