Failed PMP on 28th June

Failed PMP exam today and my grading was:

Initiation : Below Proficient

Planning: Below Proficient

Executing : MP

M&C: MP

Closing: MP

Preparation was done slowly 2 mths ago with average 1 hour of reading a day as i am still working at the same time. Specially took leave 1 week ago to concerntrate studying at least 5 hrs a day to prepare for the exam today.

However, things does not turn out well enough for me . Apparently, the questions appeared was so difficult for me that i was trying to anaylse each and every questions. Have previously done a few mock exams namely : PMStudy, RitaFast track and Trascender Exam questions.

Compare to the real exams, Mock exams questions seem to be medicore. To my surprise, none of the exam questions are straight forward enough for me to know the answer straight away. Calculations questions was not direct in providing all the figures for it, even though i memorise all the formulas properly. Have to analyse which formulas to cater for the scenarios and derive the necessary amount for another calculation for the answers.

Feeling very low in confidence right now and confused whether i should retake it before 31st july when they change to 5th edition format ?

Any advice ?

Btw, i took my friend advice in studying the Rita Book for the exam instead of the PMI 4th edition book.

Same i have experienced on 23rd of June, for me its quite diffcult to attempt again before 31st of July. Now i have planned to wt till end of this year.

better to start the preperation now from PMBOK5 and see the post here who is going to appear in new version exam.

in your case depends on you how much time you can spare for study, if you have enought time then you should attempt before 31st of july.

good luck

 Thanks Admin,

Anyone here have the same encounter as me as well ? the exams questions are extremely difficult this round and none of the questions which we have seen on mock exams came out on it?

anyone know how do i apply to retake the PMP ?

@sylves84

You mentioned that you did mocks from ..,RitaFast track and .. .  In the exam, did you get the lengthy questions like Rita ? What scores did you get duiring those mocks ? Was that the reason that lengthy questions took your time to analyse ? Were you able to answer all the questions ? If not, then may be you can manage your time better next time and that may improve your chances.

You also mentioned that the mocks appeared medicre compared to real exam. I find Fastrack the hardest. Was the toughness of the questions was more than Rita/Fastrack ?

Your answers would help you analyse the situation better for the next time. It would also help others for better preparation.

Yup i was able to answer all question in a rush actually. Doesn't have much time to analyse all the questions. In my opinion, the question in the exam is even harder than what i have did on Rita Fast track. It happened to have almost 70% lengthy questions and some of the questions might not even relevant to the answer they are asking for.

My friends who read Rita books have no issues passing the PMP exam. They even mentioned that PMBok is too dry compare to Rita. However, i felt Rita book might not necessary cover all the formulas as well.

For etc: In Rita book, the formula for EAC on typical situation =  AC + (BAC-EV) / SPI x CPI but during exams i encounter a question which doesn't have a way to calc SPI in that scenario given. When i come back and check on the PMbok, it did indicate that there is another formula stating EAC = AC +(BAC - EV) / CPI.
