EV Question

Please help me with this question:

In your project you had planned to have Tasks A, B & C completed already, however tasks A, B, C, and D are 100%, 80%, 0%, and 0% complete respectively.
The value of each day of work is $100. Using the 0-100 Rule and the information given below, calculate the SPI:

Tasks A, B, C, and D have duration of 3, 5, 4, and 3 days respectively.

Ans. choices:

A. 0.25

B. 1

C. 0.50

D. 0.75

IMO,

PV for A,B,C is 3+5+4=12 days and EV is 100% of 3 + 80% of 5 + 0% of 4 = 7, so SPI = 7/12 = 0.58

But dont see this answer in the options :(

EV= 3*100%+0=3

There are multiple rules for deciding the percentage complete:-

  • 0-100 Rule: According to this rule, the %complete of the task will either be 0 or 100. On start of the task, %complete is 100.  Throughout the duration of task, %complete remain 0%, and on closure of task, %complete changes from 0 to 100.
  • 50-50 Rule: According to this rule, as soon as the task is started, the %complete of the task is set to 50%. Throughout the duration of the task, %complete will remain 50%, and on closure of the task, %complete of task will be set to 100%

For solving the question, we need to apply 0-100 rule.

Now, as mentioned in the question, you had planned to have tasks A, B and C completed. So,

PV = PV of Task A + PV of task B + PV of task C

---PV = 3 * 100 + 5 * 100 + 4 * 100

---PV = 1200

EV = EV of task A + EV of task B + EV of task C

---EV = 3 * 100 + (Task B is only 80% complete, and as per 0-100 rule, the %complete of this task is 0) + 0

---EV = 300 + 5 * 0 + 4 * 0 = 300

SPI = EV/PV = 300/1200 = 0.25

So, the answer is A.
