Compromise Vs Smoothing

Hi,


 


I want answer for this following question


 


1) Two project members are in disagreement


2) Project manager advises the members to arrive a solution which will have best features of both approaches


3) What is the conflict resolution technique


 


I chose smoothing because Project manager focuses areas of agreement but answer given is Compromise. Which is the correct conflict resolution for this problem?

Hi Nirupamasai,


This is not smoothing but is compromising. In smoothing, PM focus on areas of agreement to smooth members but never reaches any solution. So, it's NO-SOLUTION technique.


But in compromising, PM reaches solution but is LOSE-LOSE situation for both parties.


Confronting - WIN-WIN


Compromising - LOOSE-LOOSE


Forcing - WIN-LOOSE


Smoothing & Withdrawal - NO SOLUTION
