Cleared PMP today (30th Aug)!!
Hi All,
I cleared my PMP exam today finally. It was a Struggle, Struggle only for the last 6 weeks with my hectic schedule of my office work.
I applied PMP application and got approved on 30th June, 2011.
Started studying for the exam from July 20th, 2011.
Started studying through Rita and worked out PM Fast track questions along with the chapters (which I did only for 5 chapters but studied the whole book)
Then started with PMBOK along with Rita (Again I studied only 5 chapters together then left this activity and completed only PMBOK)
Took PMZilla 25 question - 53%
PMStudy 1 - 66%
PMStudy 2 - 67%
PMStudy 3 - 72%
One more round with PMBOK, go through the non covered topics with Rita.
Covered all wrong answers on the PMStudy sets.
Quick go through of PMBOK.
Took PMStudy 4 - 76%
Then...........It's the D'Day.
Went to exam center by 4 PM, exam scheduled at 6 PM. Co-ordinator asked whether I am ready to take up the exam now. I said "OK, Since I am interested to study anything more at last moment".
Written all 42 processes, Formulas and Risk management ITTO, sigma values.
Exam is again "Not easy, Not tough". Had around 5 question formula based. Mostly the questions from Risk and Quality KA's.
Most questions was having 2 right answers (seems to be). Completed all the questions by 3:25 mins and marked around 40 Q for review and did review - only 2 mins left out. Clicked on End. Gone white screen. Till then I was very normal, then all in sudden heart beat started to hear outside of ears.
Survey - Not a right place, may be after the result would be fine. Just ended the survey, not in the wait mood.
Again it took 15 sec and the pop up "CONGRATUALTIONS" - No reaction and no word to say, all internal feelings. Wooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
Thanks to PMZilla specifically to turn my reading habits. I would strongly recommend PMStudy exams for everyone. This is close pattern but not the same.
Result : 2 Proficient, 3 Moderate, 1 below proficient.
Very special thanks to my wife, Kids (2 years old), friends for their patience.
Thanks everyone,
Gobinathan.S

Not me...
I failed to clear guys.
4BPs and 2 MPs.
Dont know where did I go wrong in spite of scoring 70-plus in mock tests, except the last day and that was the dampener ;(
I Will try in another 2 more months. This time PMBOK will be my best buddy. Ritas, Cowes, Kims can go take a walk, for all that I care.
I thought since I am an IIM-C alumni so it will be a cakewalk until i knew NOPES, either you pass or fail, there are no middle paths. I feel I am one of the rarest of the rare Indian Institute of Management fellow failing :)
Congrats Gobida. I told ya that u will!
Best,
V

Sorry to hear, Vishal :-(
Hi Vishal,
Sorry to hear this news. When I cleared the exam, I thought you would have also cleared.
PMStudy was good but you need work out where and all you had a doubt during the exam, where and all you gave the wrong answer.
Very high expert of Project Manger would fail in this exam, because it's PMI way (so, dont think about IIM and all).
Keep in touch - You can do it next time, I am adding you in linkedin as well.
Thanks,

Dear Vishal, Its really
Dear Vishal,
Its really surprising to know you did not clear as I was expecting you and Gopinthan will clear based on your communication which i used to read in the forum. Both of you were very positive expect the last day when you scored odd 60% in then mock test and the worst part you were feeling jittery when you noticed many of PMP aspirants failed on 30th (PMzilla Forum) rather than clearing until 30th evening.
That was a dapener for you, Anyway bygones are bygones and as you mentioned PMBOK should be your best buddy and please use mock test as benchmark for your studies to know your gaps and not use mock tests as a bnechmark for exam.
So never mind what you score 60's or 80's during mock test, your main concern should be what extra i need to study and prepare short notes on them. Gradually wafter 4 tests you will have your own notes and 3 days before the exam no Mock test only liesurly skim through PMBOK and update or modify your notes prepared by you during reading pMBOK and after results of mock test.
Dont appear the exam until you have studied pMBOK minimum 3 times and you have your notes with you.
Read your notes prepared by you and by that time you might have a new brain dump based on your notes and understanding.
Appear for the exam relaxed and confident and dear Vishal most imp, IIM Allumini's are always the best and you have to think as PMI and not as Vishal while answering the exam.
Best Luck Vishal and you can contact me anytime I wil do my best to help you out. Hoping to see you the coveted 3 Letter word in front of your name in 2 months.
Regards
Satish

Thanks a ton Bud...
Thanks a ton Satish Bud…
Are you on LinkedIn by any chance? Gobi Anna and I just connected on it. Please join us as it will be a huge pleasure having you around.
I have informed my banker wife (she works for ING-V) that I am on a sabbatical for two months and it will be ONLY PMP and nothing else. Thankfully, my stint with IIM-C is getting over on 09/03 and I am planning to take the test on 10/31. The only silver lining with my result is that I got MP in Ethics and since the examinations now will be based out of Ethics, so I am okay with this.
When I joined IIM-C, there were 6 guys from my batch who appeared inPrometric Cal , and all of them got through and that is when I realized me too, Main Bhi. After getting the necessary PDUs, I gave the test after preparing for 20 odd days and the result is there for all to see.
Now, I want to clear PMP essentially due to two reasons:
A) I don’t take failures very easily, and
B) I can not get the name of IIM-C flustered.
I shall be seeking your help and guidance throughout my pursuit for the coveted, PMP J
Thanks so much!
Best,
V
PS: I completely endorse Gobi Anna’s and your process of thought where I have to start thinking the PMI way and which place I am an alumni of, IIM-A, B, C or even HBS should be of very scanty concern to me. Point thoroughly taken!!!

Dont worry Vishal,
We are all with you and we would love to see you clear the certification. Sorry to say Vishal but 20 odd days is not good enough to get a good grasp of PMBOK. You can contact me on PMzilla or you can email me at satish.hebbar@gmail.com.
Cheers Buddy and Best Luck for your IIM prepration.

Congrats
Congrats Gopinath...Thats a great news :)
Vishal- Sorry to hear the news. Infact I was pretty sure too like Satish that you will make it looking at your posts and test scores. Hopefully next time you will do pretty well :)
Guys- I was also supposed to take the exam on 29th August but due to inclement weather conditions in NY they have postponed my exam. On contacting the prometric and PMI several times, just got to know that they have to make decision for the affected candidated on East coast. Lets see how things go.
Thanks

Sumedha Dont worry hang in
Sumedha Dont worry hang in there and please be prepared whatever the decision PMI might take.
Dont attempt any exams before your final exam as we all read in the forums many of the candidates got stressed out bcos of the mock test and time spent on giving the exam and then to understand where we are wrong i.e time spent approx 7hours on mock test prior to the final exam.
So better utilise the time to read PMBOK or whatevr notes you have prepared befor the final exam.
Best Luck to you and keep us posted regarding your exam and result

Congrats Gobinath
Congratulations Gobinath. Somehow, after reading the conversations between you and Vishal, I was very excited to know about both your results.
I was constantly checking the forum yesterday (before I went to take my test) to see how everyone is faring, and was very relieved when I saw your results. It worked like a stree reliever for me and I passed too :-)
Congratulations. :)
Cheers,
Adi
