Clarification on some of the questions

Hi Guys,

I've couple of clarification on three questions. I have posted my loic to the answer and seek advice and comments on your view point.

Question 1:  One of the fundamental tenets of quality management is that quality:

Answer:

  1. A. Must exceed customer expectation   (Answer marked correct by question bank)

  2. B. Is planned in and not inspected in

  3. C. Will increase cost   (My answer)

  4. D. Costs must all be passed onto the customer

    My logic to the answer:

Option A: Cannot be correct as Quality means “Conformance to requirement” and exceed customer expectation is called as “Gold plating” which is not correct.

Once you try to exceed the customer expectation via quality you will
increase cost and I think “option C” is correct answer

Question 2:  "Please select the option that best describes the steps needed to conduct a peer review".

Answer:

  1. " Planning >Preparation >Meeting >Overview >Follow-up >Rework"

  2. " Planning >Overview >Preparation >Meeting >Rework >Follow-up" (My answer)

  3. "Preparation >Planning > Overview >Meeting >Rework >Follow-up"   (Question bank answer)

  4. "Meeting >Planning >Overview >Preparation >Rework >Follow-up"

My logic to the answer:

Option C: This cannot be right answer as, for everything you do, we need to first plan and then prepare. Hence Option C cannot be right answer.

I strongly feel right answer is either option C or Option A.

Question 3:  "While reviewing the progress, the project manager assesses that an activity has been missed out from the implementation plan. A milestone, scheduled to be achieved within another week, will be missed with the current implementation plan.
Which of the following is the next best action for the project manager in this situation? "    (1 Points)

Answer:

  1. Report the error and the expected delay    (0 Points)

  2. Omit the status update on the milestone    (0 Points)

  3. Report the error and the planned recovery actions    (My answer)

  4. Assess alternatives to meet the milestone    (question bank answer)

Your answer: Report the error and the planned recovery actions

My logic to the answer:

Option D: This cannot be right answer as, this should have been captured as a risk in risk register and for anything which is in risk register you execute the risk response plan and need not required to find an alternative as it already exist as risk response plan. Hence this cannot be correct answer.

I strongly feel right answer is either option C as, the first thing we do is to report the error and execute the recovery action

1. . Fundamental Tenet cannot be to increase the quality. Quality will always reduce costs in long run. Lack of quality , results in rework and hence increases the cost

Also you are right that Quality is not to exceed client expectations, but definition of quality does state that it should meet stated and implied needs of client. I would pick B, which is Quality should be planned and not inspected in.

2. In your answer, Overview is out of place, C can be correct since preparation is nearly same as planning when it comes to peer review. You would prepare your code for peer review, then plan for peer review and so on. ...

3. Why to report error ,when you can assess alternatives and still meet the milestone. REcovery plan would be needed if damage is already done.

I agree with your response on Question #3. But still have a doubt on Quality (Question #1). The question says tenents. Fundamentally quality will always accompany cost right?  Quality should be planned and not inspected in is how you should approach quality.

On #2 Why they have given planning and preparation both in a sequence if they have near simmilar meaning.  I will say First thing is plan and then you prepare.

Please add on, I want to get these right in my head.

let see one by one

1. see pmbok p190 last 3 lines, option B is correct.

----------------------------

2. By given sequences, it is quality related inspection and improvement , and any improvement action must be fit in - PDCA cycle ,  a theory of  SHEWHART / DEMING P191

Plan means-    planning, nd preparation or prepration (initiation) nd planning

Do --                   overview nd meeting nd rework

Check & Act -    follow up

So option C is close to this theory.

some authors also classify process groups in this cycle -  P -- I & P,   D-   E,    C & A ---- M&C nd C

though this question has little lacuna / confusion - "preparation" may also fit in execution also(DO), option B may be the answer.

I believe this question level is non pmi

-----------------------------------------------------

3.  Reporting of error is aready happened, assessment of alternative is the best next action.

Yes, make sense....thanks sspawar ji...
