Clarification

Which one of these would make the right choice. I thought it would be C but the answer seem to be A . Can anyone help me with this?

Your organization is experiencing a shakeup at the top levels of management. Your project team has expressed concerns that their project may be cancelled because of the changes going on at the top. Sure enough, your project team was correct in their suspicions. You’ve received notice that the project is canceled. Your vendor only has one remaining deliverable for the project scheduled for completion next month. You notify the vendor in writing that the project has been canceled, but you understand there is one more deliverable they need to complete in order to close out the contract. You also notify them that the Phase II portion of the project has been canceled, so current contract negotiations for that portion of the project will end immediately. All of the following processes should be performed given the circumstances in this question except:
A. Lessons Learned
B. Administrative Closure
C. Scope Verification
D. Contract Closeout

Good Question :-)

Having a look at the answers we can shortlist two options directly that is Option B and Option D. Since lessons learned are documented throughout the project and also at its closure I would include Option A as well.

So as per my understanding of the question answer should be Option C.

Can you please let me know the source of this wonderful question.

I found it in PMhub forum where some had posted this discussion but didn't get the right answer there . I guess they had mentioned that this questiong is from Kim Heldman

Indeed C seems to be the correct answer, not sure how can A be justified over C

A is the correct answer as question is asking all processes, B,C and D are processes but A is not a process.

Here the word ' process' should not be interpreted as PMBOK process.  It should be interpreted as ' step'.  So the question boils down to: Which of the following Steps you WILL NOT DO when the project issuddenly closed/cancelled?

A- You need to do to help future projects

B & D - Prohect has ended (though abruptly)- You Have to do

C- Scope Verification comes into picture at the time of accepting/rejecting the deliverables.  You don't waste time doing this on a canceled project as the deliverables are least sought on a canceled project.  I will go for C

If the project is cancelled before completion Verify Scope should be performed to document where the product was in relation to the scope at the point when the project ended

In situation scenarios of PMP's questions, every answer in the multiple choices is correct to some extent and PMP exam expects us to assign weightage for each answer and pick the BEST one that scores higher than the remaining 3.  According to PMBOK 4.0, section 5.4, Page 123, " Verify Scope is the process of formalizing acceptance of the completed project deliverables".  When the project is pre-maturely closed/canceled, the question of completion of deliverables does not arise.  Since the LL is a necessary component at every phase/end of project as it adds value for future projects by avoiding pitfalls and preventing reinventing the wheel; and the Closure procedures are also necessary to wrap up the project ( Remember- Project has a definite end and without Closure process in place the project is not completed).  I still feel that all this leads to the Best Choice "C" for this question.  I welcome debate on this question as we will learn and retain a lot with a detailed discussion, parsing of information and selecting the best scenario.

verify scope has to be done, even if the project was cancelled...
