CAPM or PMP?

Hi there,

I'm new both in this forum and in taking any of MPI exams.
I don't have a formal project management work experience, but I did work for 2.5 yrs + did my PhD for 4 yrs. And, of course, I worked on a project in both cases. Is there any way that I can use these experiences instead of the requirement for PM experience to register for PMP exam?
If not, then I have to take CAMP, right? Is there any forum similar to pmzilla for CAPM exam that I can find all I need to get prepared? ;)

This forum can also be used for CAPM. There is no more preparation difference between CAPM and PMP.
CAPM questions are directly from PMBOK like defination, ITTO etc.
PMP questions focus on application and implementation of PMBOK.

You can contact your local PMI customer care regarding experience verification.
