Dear Friends,
I need your value inputs for the best answer for the below question.
The group voted on the CCG (cud-chewer gun) five times but decided not to include it because they couldn’t get everyone to agree on it.
a. Unanimity b. Plurality
c. Majority d. Dictatorship
Unanimity means-every one agrees on decesion
Plurality means--idea that gets most votes win
Majarity--majority of people agree to a decesion
Dictatorship-one person makes decesion
Here if we consider the sentences "they couldnt get every one to agree on it." none of the above "a", "b" and "c" fall into correct answer. then can we consider "d" as correct answer.
Kindly provide your valueble inputs to select the best answer.
Regards,
Vishwanath

Dear Vishwanath,
Probably the import of the question is "Which group decesion technique is used to exclude CCG? "
Unanimity: Everyone Agrees to either include or exclude. So this cannot be the answer.
Dictatorship: There is no question of voting from the group in this case. One person takes a decesion on behalf of the group. So this also cannot be the answer.
Options left are to chose between Majority and Plurality.
Majority: More than 50% of the people in group vote to agree or disagree. If more than 50% disagree to include CCG, then it will not be included.
Plurality: This is happens like this. Suppose the group is split into
Then if Group A voted to disagree, then CCG will not be included. In the given question since there is no explicit mention of percentages, "Majority" can be considered as the answer to the question.
Other's opinion can give different perspective to look at the Question (Question is rather poorly phrased.)

Its a tricky question....
Its a tricky question.... "they couldnt get everyone to agree on it" ,... does not mean there was no consensus. It could still mean that majority agreed to not include it.
If B was correct answer then CCG should have got most votes. Obviously it did not get enough votes so it was excluded.
So only left option is C - majority could not agree for inclusion , so it was excluded.

Thanks for explanation , but in the Head first book, the correct answer is marked as "a". I do really need assistance on what basis is the answer "a" selected.
