Appreciation and Lessons Learnt

It is my pleasure to inform that I could clear the PMP exam on Nov. 20, 2012.

By God's grace and my family's support, I passed the exam with 4 P's and 1 MP (Closing).

I would like to appreciate this website in providing me good assistance with my exam preparation. The various summary notes provided on this website were of great help in my last few days of exam preparation.

I would like to share my lessons learnt which may help all our friends who wish to attempt this exam in future. In my understanding PMP examination requires 2 important aspects:

1. Exam Preparation through study material (Reference Books and PMBOK).

2. Certain Hands on Project Experience on Real World Project. This makes studying relatively easier. I am able to say this as I had experience on most of the knowledge areas but for Quality and Risk Management and it was not easy for me to study these 2 knowledge areas.

With regard to study, I adoted the below approach:

1. I started with PMBOK. This book was a little difficult for me to comprehend.

2. On my friends advice (who is also a certified PMP for morethan 2 years now), I started reading Rita's prep book. I read this book with a thorough understanding a couple of times. This book really helped me in understanding the various aspects of PM and how to approach the exam. Using coloured highlighters, I highlighted the important aspects for revision purpose.

3. I followed this up by reading the PMBOK and reading this time round, the book started making sense to me. I once again used the highlighting tool as I did while studying Rita's book. Then I used to juggle between PMBOK and Rita's book for various aspects of the subject.

4. I intermittently took mock tests.

5. 10 days prior to the exam, I took a vacation from work.

6.  Last 5 days I only devoted to revising the Summary Notes of this wesite, the highlighted sections in PMBOK and also the highlighted areas in Rita's book (highlighted areas as mentioned earlier).

7. I thorougly studied the ITTO's, formalaes and the Rita's Process Chart which she has repeated at the begining of each chapter (page 2 of every chapter).

8. I feel that I should have practiced more on the sample questions available from various sources. Analysing wrongly answered sample questions is of big help during the actual exam.

Good Luck to all my future PMP aspirants.

A special thanks to Mr. Anil, Mr. Chowdhary and Mr. Rajesh Nair (for all your hard work that has been shared on this website which was a great preparatory tool) - Apologies if I have missed those who have also provided their contribution to this selfless cause of supporting and providing help to others.

Once again I express my sincere gratitude to this website administrators. Please do keep up the good work.

Regards and Thanks,

Amit
