# Any help on this control chart question?

Q:A production process has been defined as part of an industrial equipment
manufacturing project.The process is intended to produce steel bolts with a
length of 20 cm.The acceptable control limits are 19.955 cm and 20.045 cm.
The measurements made at the end of the process yielded the following
results:
20.033 cm, 19.982 cm, 19,995 cm, 20.006 cm, 19.970 cm, 19.968 cm,
19.963 cm, 19.958 cm, 19.962 cm, 19.979 cm, 19.959 cm.
What should be done?
A. The process is under control.It should not be adjusted.
B. The process should be adjusted.
C. The control limits should be adjusted.
D. The measuring equipment should be recalibrated

Ans is . B: The process should be adjusted.

Can pls soemone explain why?bcoz all the results are within control limit.So i was choosing option A.

Hi The answer is be, apply the 7 special casues rule here. if you llom at the question, the below score on control chart are plotted on one side between mean & LCL. the count is seven so 7 special causes apply to this question.

agree with the above justificstion. rule of seven applies .  mean of the above control limits is 20.00 and the seven consecutive data are between 19.955 and 20.000.

It needs to be investigated. The answer is B

### Rule of Seven

When 7 consecutive measurements lie on one side of mean. Which is what the case here. So there needs to be an assignable cause. For rule of seven, or for measurements outside control limit, there are usually reasons behind that cannot be predicted. These causes can be prevented. Hence it requires that this be looked at, and the process be adjusted after addressing the assigned cause.

this is not in accordance with the sum and substance of rule of seven. If I have to go by the flawed logic being discussed/enforced here, in any case more than 14 measurements (with no one lying exactly on mean) will lead to rule of seven
