27-Sep-2012 Passed PMP
Hello All,
I have passed PMP exam with following result:
Initation: moderately proficient
Planning:moderately proficient
Executing: moderately proficient
Monitoring: proficient
Closing: moderately proficient
I've my PMP course since early of Mar 2012 and completed on mid of May 2012. No furthuer study after the the lesson because i was preparing another vendor examination. I returned back to PMP in mid or end of Jul. Study around 3 hrs in weekday after work. And take around 1 weeks annual leave with 12 hrs study per day. My prepartion matrial and mock are:
Material:
Rita Exam Prepare Book - be honest, I can not caught the concept indeed. Just read through once.
PMPbok - Compare with rita, i could get more concept and not seems too boring. I have a detail look one time and 2 times fast look
PMP Notice from PMP Course- read through twice as i could found out what i missed and go through some confused term with some simple word
Rajesh Nair Notes - After finsihed Rita, i treat this as I primary study notes and enrich the content after i go through PMBOK and Rita. However, I was getting loss on some of the concept.
My personal Notes - I re-organize some topic from Rajesh Nair Notes & add personal notes inside. I've read through 4 - 5 times. I have captured PMBOK some process workflow for study. It is pretty great to know how documents are accessed between different process
Mock exam:
75- question is tough but worth to take.
175- question is long and tought。 i just take first 100 and gave up finally
PMP for sure(free) - good & very similar to real exam
PM Study(free) - good as very similsr to real exam
Headfirst 200 - comparatively easy & good start poiny for exam. However, i have doubt on some of questions.
Others:
Pmzilla.com - A wonderful & many tips, thank you for all your input!!
Examination:
I arrived the center 1 hours ahead. I did not study anymore & just close my eye to relax. After awhile, I was asked to go inside the center & take the exam. I braindump all formual & some key concept (e.g. Storming, forming....Team Mgt theory) Be frank, the question is comparatively easy & striaght forward then I expected. I spend around 2.5 hrs to complete the exam & review almost ALL questions once. Let's me conclude some points of exam questions:
1. Quite lots of EV questions, about 10 ~ 15. However, you could easily get EV,PV,AC... from the question without problem
2. No calculation on Contract
3. You could figure out answer by filtering as I saw many question only have one correct answer. E.g. Risk question, only 1 of it are related to risk & others is irrelvant
4. Some ITTO direct question, but not much. Remember this could make you have confidence but it is NOT a must to memoize. I just remeber some key input/output from PMBOK process flow
5. Few critical path questions but easy to get the answer
Here is my some tips or suggestions on PMP:
1. Relax. I could not sleep well almosts 2 weeks because I guess I will fail my exam. My friend only very good grading in mock exam during class but still found it is very hard.
2. The exam is not so difficult as expected. Study harder is the path for succeed
3. Before answering question, try to read it carefully and under which process group / knowledge area, you will get the answer very easily once you knew it
4. Do 1 -2 times for same mock exam & study the reason for the questions you're wrong. I found that it is meaningless to do it over 3 times as some of them are answered by your memory instead of your understanding. So I suggest you to memorize PMBOK P.43
5. When doing mock exam, avoid to do it in too quite area. I do my mock exam in study room & using in-ear earphone to do. However, in the real exam, I'm disturbing by the noise of hiting the button of the calculator by someone taken others exam (I guess she is takeing some Accounting exam)
6. Do not do mock exam 1 - 2 days before the exam. I'm frustrated of bad result after taken one mock before 2 days of Exam.
Lastly, I wanna to thanks all of you who have given valuable comment from this forum. I learnt tips from this site. This is the reason why I wrote this as I wanna someone found it might useful:) Sorry for my bad english & english is not my native langaues. Wish all of you have good health & being a skillful PMP:)
