Whats next

Hi All,
Most of the people in this group must be PMP certified. I am a new memeber of this family so just wanted to put this thought across, whats next ..whats the best way to encash your certification ..do you approach the PMO of your organisation for a bigger role or wait for the newly gained knowledge to apply in existing project
Do the other companies while going for lateral hiring are ready to pay the extra premium in hiring you

Your goal should always be to encash your skills and competency. The more you sell yourself in the market, the higher survival satisfaction you have. Let’s be very honest.

First approach is that approach your organization and get your PMP information updated with your HR records and your billing account. Speak to your manager/HR that you need band growth and the designation of project manager. With PMP in your profile what you are asking for is genuine. Don’t wait for over 6 months if you do not get, why? The global market is big, never love your organization, love yourself, your commitments and learn to sell yourself to get maximum with what you can give to the organization.

In large companies in India PMP is defacto standard. i have seen many people who did not use to get interview calls, get calls after doing PMP.  Its like an unwritten rule in many companies that Lateral PMs should atleast be PMPs.

You should approach your manager and ask for higher roles. but even better is try to do your current work with excellence now that you have enhanced your knowledge, the difference will be noticed in few months and you will automatically be asked to take up Sr. Roles.

There is always shortage of good commited PMs who can deliver projects successfuly. Many are PMs for namesake and can neither resolve issues effectively nor can they put a risk mitigation plan. You doing the basic required things in your project is enough to set you apart from other PMs.
