What is the correct answer

Q1. A New product development project has four levels n the work breakdowns structure and has been sequenced using the precedence diagramming method. The activity durations estimates have been received. What should be done NEXT?

A.      Create an Activity List

B.      Begin the work breakdown structure

C.      Finalize the schedule

D.      Compress the schedule

Q2. You are the project manager for a new product development project that has four levels n the work breakdown structure. The network diagram and duration estimates have been created and a schedule has been developed and compressed. What time management activity should you do NEXT?

A.      Control schedule

B.      Estimate Activity Resources

C.      Analogously estimate the schedule

D.      Gain Approval

 c a

I agree with your ans but Rita book says d and d .. so i got so confused.

I recall the 2nd question in Rita's book... I think the trick was the fact the question states which time management ACTIVITY ...not Process.. The thought is that you should get your schedule approved before implementing it.. . It's a dirty unfair question nonetheless.

Question3: You are in the test phase of your software project, and the project sponsor has requested a definitive estimate of when your project will be completed. The most likely estimated duration is 30 days. Which of the following duration estimations will you give to your sponsor?
Reference - PM STudy

  1. 29 - 31 days

  2. 24 - 36 days

  3. 20 - 40 days

  4. 15 - 45 days

I believe answer should be choice 1. Since the sponsor wants a definitive estimate, the estimate range should be as close as possible to -5% to +10%.

If you look at all the 4 answers, the minimum and maximum estimates are in the 3 sigma range from the mean for that specific range. So which ever answer you choose, there is a 99.73% of achieving the estimate.

However the estimate which represents the closest range variation of -5% to +10% is choice 1.

For choice 1, P=31, O=29, M = 30

SD = (P-O/6)= (31-29)/6 = 0.33

So 29 represents 3SD below mean, 31 reresents 3 SD above mean. 99.73 % of achieving this estimate.

% variation of minimum estimate = (M-O)/M = (30-29)/30 = 0.033. This implies 3.33%.

% variation of maximum estimate = (P-M)/M = (31-30)/30 = 0.033. This implies 3.33%.

So Estimate range for choice 1 is from -3.33 % to +3.33%

If you calculate the same for choice 2

SD=2, Again probability of achieving an estimate in the range 24 to 36 days with SD 2 would be 99.73%.

But % variation in minimum estimate = (30-24)/30 = 0.20. This implies 20%.

Estimate range for choice 2 will therefore vary from  -20% to +20%

The estimate range continue to broaden with the subsequent choices.

For choice 3 it will be -33.3%3 to +33.33%

For choice 4 it will e -50% to +50%.

perhaps pmstudy considers an estimate which ranges within +/- 10% is a definitive estimate.

thus option 1 only falls under this category.

but pmbok fixed the range of ROM estimate as +/-50%, and later it specify it could nerrow up to +/- 10%.

Guys, if the "most likely estimated duration" is 30days, would it require any calculation b4 chosing A?

All other options have a wider deviations from 30 than A.

question is giving 2 different points:

1 most likely

2 definitive estimates

here you cant choose one option based on 1st point. 30may be most likely for all options.

definitive estimate means most possible nerrow estimate, point no 2 will only be applicable here.

point 1 is given only to judge your understanding.

Previously in the test there are lots of questions and we chose right answer from them and it is very difficult. Because they have more than five option and we have to give best dissertations as an answer and read very carefully.
