Starting PMI ACP .. Advise

Hi All,

I just passed PMP and I am starting PMI ACP now. I am planning to take skillsoft courses and read Andy Crowe and Mike Griffiths. Can experienced people let me know what should be studied and If I am missing something.

How much is the usual study duration required to pass PMI ACP. I have heard it is NOT as tough as PMP exam.

Any suggestions.

Thanks,

Yog

Since you have recently done PMP  , ACP should not be as tough. I would say 80 hours preparation should be good. Including the time required for mock tests

There are few LL in this forum but still good information for ACP starters.

Thanks Admin.

I filled my PMP application in Nov 2014.I had mentioned the traditional Project Management practices in my project roles and responsibilities till Nov 2014 (Since I was appearing for PMP and not PMI-ACP) For e.g. My participation includes identifying initial requirements, assumptions, high level scope, risks, constraints, stakeholders & their expectations, developing project plan, detailed requirements, WBS, scope, schedule, acquiring & managing team, ensuring quality of deliverable, analyzing and reporting project performance...........and so on.

We have a hybrid model. Organization have had traditional project management practices for long but there is a focus and shift towards the Agile methodologies. My question is :

Now when I am applying for PMI-ACP, Can I show the experience before Nov 2014 as Agile also (Since we had Hybrid approach) OR I need to wait for next 8 months after Nov 2014 and show the Agile experience only after Nov 2014 (Currently also we have Hybrid modle) ? If yes, then I cannot take PMI-ACP till Aug 2015.

The PMI-ACP Handbook says

Further, your agile project experience must be unique and separate from your general project experience. This means that you:

• Cannot record the same project or a project by the same name under both your general project experience and agile project experience.

• Cannot count the hours associated with general project experience toward fulfilling the requirements for agile project experience and

• Cannot use the same project activities to summarize your experience from general project to agile project

Hi Admin,

I have the same project going on since Sep 2013. Actually It's a program consisted of many similar projects but in terms of vendor terminology here, we call this a Project. I mentioned this "project" from Sep 2013 till Nov 2014 at the time of taking PMP exam but since it is a hybrid model so out of 15 months I had only considered 11 months hours as traditional project management (Since approx. 4 months time was spent on Agile and other things). I mean

Duration : Sep 2013 - Nov 2014 (This is 15 months duration)

Hours : 1760 (Equivalent to 11 months)

Even though we change the methodolgy to fully Agile, the project name will remain same till Sep 2016 (as it is in contract).

The handbook says

Cannot record the same project or a project by the same name under both your general project experience and agile project experience.

So I am in a dilemma.

I havn't got the option to fill the general PM exp. during filling PMI-ACP application since PMI already has my general exp. which I filled at the time of appearing for PMP and when I got audited during PMP.

Any insights in such a situation.
