Passed PMP 3 weeks ago

Hello Everyone,

I've been a regular at PmZilla during my PMP preperation and i cleared my PMP 3 weeks ago.It was an enrcihing experience in terms of learning while preparing for the PMP.The breadth of structured knowledge was truly worth the effort.

My personal lessons learned during the preperation for the PMP are :

1) I read Rita 6th Edition thourughly and then followed by PMBOK. There is practically no differenece ( from the exam preperation perspective) between the 6th and 7th edition of Rita's book.( Per say : You can still study the 6th edition and pass )

2) I kind of used reverse enginnering method during my preperation. I would attemp the tests and then look at the answers and make my study notes through these questions, which helped my grasp the key concepts.

3) I see a lot of  comments from the people who failed the test, that they never really studied the PMBOK seriously and relied more on other sources.I would say use Rita and PMBOK to study in parallel. Never skip the PMBOK completely.PMBOK is valuable and use it to understand the subject.

4) I did not memorize any ITTO's at all. The idea is to understand them so thouroughly that u understand the project management process as a whole. I did have ITTO questions in the test but i didn't have to rely on memory to answer them but instead  the understanding.

5) The most important attribute of my preperation was focus and consistency. Set a target date and set a plan and stick with it. ( What i did was, set my test date a month ago. Put in 3 hours of study everyday no matter what. 2 Weeks before the exam attempt 200 questions per day and then 4 days befor the exam i stopped giving tests or reading any new topics. Just focussed on what i already know and had learnt)

As they say success is all about constancy of purpose. An exam ( PMP ) is no different.

Good luck to all aspirants.
