Question - on Critical Path
Hi, I dont really understand the sens of that question
====
Your project has a critical path of twenty-three weeks. What is the impact on the critical path if management wants ou to complete the project in twenty weeks ?
A. Duration of the critical path increases by three weeks
B. Duration of the critical path must decrease by three weeks.
C. Duration of the ritical Path remains the same.
D. Duration of the critical path cannot be determined
Answer : C.
Explanation :
B is incorect because there will be no decrease in the duration for the critical path
C If the management wants to complete the project in tewenty weeks, then the project float will be: 20-23 = -3 weeks. the project float compares the critical path with an externally imposed date and may be negative. You may be forced to fast-track or perform crashing to ensure that the project is completed within the dates required by the management). Remember the critical path gives you the fastet path through the project and tells you when the project will be completed based on current resources. Without any changes to the current plan, the new externally imposed date will not change the critical path.
==
I thought It was B... I think the explanation in the C is logic but no too sure, the wording on the question makes me think more B than C
anyone ?

Please avoid the source of such mock tests. Such questions are only meant to trick the PMP aspirants so that you give wrong answers, there is no logic here.
If management wants to finish the project in 20 weeks then its understood that we will be either crashing or fast tracking. There is no point in saying that critical path remains the same. Option B is correct in my opinion since it says "must reduce by 3 weeks" and not "will reduce by 3 weeks"

Answer C is correct, let me
Answer C is correct, let me explain why:
Critical Path is calculated to understand what is the longest duration for a particular project. If management want to complete the project in 20 weeks it means they will use Crashing or Fast-tracking methods on Critical path activities which means Critical Path still remains 23 weeks as planned. By applying techniques they will try to finish the task with in 20 weeks.
Hope you understand it now.
