Herzberg Theory
Hygiene vs Motivators. Hygiene is temporary which includes working conditions, salary, interpersonal relations, company policy, etc
Motivators are the work itself, responsibility, and advancement. These are long term positive effects.

Types of Motivation
Motivation is more the form of job security as a component of Theory Z, Ouchi's theory. With this theory management offers employees working conditions that make it easy for them to want to work or spend more time at work. Think Apple/Zappo's.
Motivation in the form of on the job satisfaction is related to Herzberg's theory. Think of intrinsic vs extrinsic rewards. We do things because of how we feel (including work) - intrinsic rewards. Dr Phil said it best "Find their currency."
Hygiene factors are extrinsic motivators - salary, working conditions, etc. You can have good pay in a great location and still hate your job.
