# compress the schedule

The sponsor of the project you are managing asks you to compress the schedule.

Can some one pls validate/clarify the statements below,

Fast track also add (may/often) add cost, due to increased communcation / coordination required

As per PMBOK, Crashing the activities on the critical path saves time but Fast tracking any activities saves time (why so?)

D wrong : Fast Track increases parallel activities, chance of more critical paths/near critical paths.

C some how acceptable, there is no other chance :

Reg Schedlue : If you Crash the schedule, that means schedule become shorten. in this case schedule is already ahead of schedule. then the schedule again ahead of schedule.

Example : The current  schedule is 2 weeks ahead.  If you crash 1 week then it becomes 2 weeks ahead.

Reg Budget : Current budget is under budget.  If you crash the schedule costs going to increse.

--Fast Track kills Project Managers Time that cost of money to the Projec. (Fast track also add (may/often) add cost, due to increased communcation / coordination required)

Crashing the activities on the critical path saves time because applying additional resources.

Ex: Activity A takes 20 days with 2 people.  If you add 2 more people the activity A may take 10+ days( + law of diminishing returns) .

Fast TRack : The activities need to run parallel that means the time of which activities doing parallel going to save.

Ex: Activities A, B,C and D takes each 5 days total duration is 20 days

If you do A and B activities doing FS relationship simultanious with C and D doing FS relationship.

The toal work completing in 10 days.

C crashing is only a viable alternative if earned value analysis indicates that the project is ahead of schedule and under budget> Not true as we only crash the schedule to get back on schedule.

D fast tracking will result in less parallel activities than crashing project> Not true as we do activities in parallel as we don't have enough resources to do otherwise.
