007 PDU Tip - Everything about PDU Category F

As the holder of a Project Management Institute (PMI) credential (except CAPM) you are required to earn a specified number of Professional Development Units (PDUs) to maintain that credential. PMI has developed six categories of PDUs in which one can obtain credits. In this series of PDU Tips we review all six categories and give you our insights. We are progressing onto Category F, “Working as a Professional in Project Management,” which is the final category of three within the “Giving Back to the Profession Categories.”

But please remember that there is a maximum of 45 PDUs that you can earn in the “Giving Back” division. This means that you can earn a maximum of 45 PDUs for Category D, E and F combined.

PDU Category F covers how you can earn Professional Development Units simply by working as a project manager. Basically, Category F allows you to earn PDUs based on your employment if you are working for at least 6 out of 12 months as a project manager, so you are getting free PDUs just for doing your job!

For Category F, a holder of either the PMP or the PgMP credential earn a total of five PDUs per twelve month period or a total of fifteen PDUs per three cycle. A holder of either the PMI-SP or the PMI-RMP credential can earn a total of two and a half PDUs per twelve month period or a total of seven and a half PDUs per cycle.

To defend PDUs in Category F during a possible audit you need to provide verification of employment and job description.

And this concludes our series of PMP PDU Tips in which we looked at the six PDU categories. If you still have any questions then please write to askcornelius@pdu-insider.com  and we will respond.
