Passed PMP on First Attempt... (21/Aug/2011)

Just back from Exam centre. I took the Exam in Riyadh, KSA. As you know (or guess) it will be hard during hot ramadan, but the grace of god everything is great. Exam was not difficult or easy. My working experience with a large company helped a lot. Actually I am Software Engineer with Masters in IT and over 14 years experience. My prepation was about 40 Days. Each day i spent about 6 hours. And Last weekend about 15 hours on each day. I red PMBOK (i believe it is best source) and Rita (1 time) and started to take exams to understand the gap. After the mock exams (during exam also) i will write down my weak areas, and then i will reread that portion...Sometimes i will google it to get a wide knowledge. Actually i didnt memorise almost anything..just EVM 4 equations.Just 2 days before my exam i reread the rita and PMBOX together. Whenever I got confused with Rita (or couldnt agree), i will go with PMBOK. I consider it is the best resource. For me, monitoring control, Quality and risk questions were easier. after 100 questions, i felt like i will pass. Such feeling helped me to answer better. I had just 9 min for review questions, only 2 answers i changed during this period.

Finally I thank PM Zilla, it helped me for my preparation. All the best for all PMP aspirants. Kindly request everyone to make sure the PMI values you achived tranlate to business and personal life.

Regards

Congrats, I also passed in San Francisco California. Below is the only advice I will provide for the exam to pass.  If I can pass ANYONE can pass I am not that smart!!!!

6 weeks ago I failed and felt I was very close. (studied 40hrs)

I used the following:(Studied 100 HRS)

1) Ritas book read once all the way through, then covered the difficult knowledge areas again. 100Hrs of Study. Take the exams at the end of the chapters.

2) PM Prepcast, not all of the episodes but most.  Very basic but certainly good if you are not a project manager in your current profession.

3) Practice exams Fast track, PM Perfect Eams (easy but good). PMI exam as mentioned in a previous  thread. (Averaged 75-85 on all tests as of the day before the test)

DID NOT: Memorize any of the ITTO's.  If I did memorize them would have known 12 Ques. on exam.  However I did understand how the processes worked and what actually made sense.

2 selections were obviously incorrect on almost every question! (if you studied)

Read the questions carefully you know what you are doing and go with your gut and you will do just fine!!

AREAS TO STUDY (Ritas book says the same thing so this is not unethical disclosure)

Estimating  at least 10 questions

Risk 20 questions

Quality 10 questions

Math 5 questions

Understand integrated change control!!

GOOD LUCK!!!

Congrats for clearing the exam !!!
