Preperation:
At first stage, PMBOK x 1 time, cover to cover with preperation of my own notes and summary.
Then HeadFirst x 1 time, cover to cover with preperation of my own notes and summary, to minimize loose ends about though topics.
Then Achieve PMP Exam Success : A Concise Study Guide for the Busy Project Manager x 1 time, cover to cover with preperation of my own notes and summary.
In between I had to freeze my preperation around 1.5 month for M.Sc. exams in my universtiy.
Beginning of the May-2013 resumed my study and started with Rita, I've started to prepare summary but I gave up and just highlighted important texts. Here I want to advise to candidates that, yes language of RIta is little bit condescending but there is no need to get stuck by language of the book. What really matters is, Rita is the best among any other book to prepare you. So just neglect the unnecessary assumptions and acquisitions in Rita's book, and keep going.
10 days to exam... I started to read Rita + PMBOK together and solved all knowledge area questions in Rita's Fasttrack. Here are my results:
- Integration - %73
- Scope - %83,2
- Time - %80,7
- Cost - %80,9
- Quality - %86,6
- HR - %86,9
- Communications - %88,2
- Risk - %77,9
- Procurement - 76,4
- PMP - %80,4
- Super PMP - %67 (got a lot of external distraction during test)
I also solved 200 question free Exam from Pm Study - %73,71
I did not have time to take any other simulation and I did not get bothered as well. Because I felt that I was ready.
Exam:
Questions were easier than Rita, so you can assume that if you perform good with Rita means you're ready. Within first 20 questions I felt confident that I will pass... :)
I got a lot of question from Risk and Quality and situational change control questions. A few mathematical but easy questions with EV calculations, 2 EMV question, 1 contract type selection and 2 PDM question. I do not recall any other mathematical question from the exam. And 2 ITTO only...
It took around 2:30 minutes for my 1st pass with 25 questions in doubt. Next 30 minutes I debated internally for that 25 question and last 50 minutes I reviewed from question no.1 to 120 and I got bored :) Yet 10 minutes to finish I ended the exam, skipped the survey and CONGRAGULATIONS....
My best advise to candidates, memorize page 43 like your name with key outputs !!! It's quite useful to resolve situational questions; to understand where the PM stands in that chart according to given situation. By this way you can judge which steps missed or should come next.
All the best and good luck to newbies
